There's DVD video. Dark screen and bad video quality. If compressed using XviD-1.0-RC3-29022004, settings as 643000, resolution 640*352, MPEG, No B-VOPs, VHQ0, the final size of the file is 2.4G. But if compressed using XviD-24062003-1, same settings, the final size is only 350MB.

that problem can be described as "oversize due to small first pass". A lot of quant1 frames get used then. Sometimes the rate control "smartness" disallows for a compensation of such huge overflow which will appear then.

This has been answered before, the solution is simple:

set all overflow settings to i.e. 20% and you will hit your targeted size. In general it is a bad idea to have a second pass bigger than a first pass, it's simply a waste of space for no visual improvement and can cause troubles (in which you obviously ran... ;) ).
