I love the speed-increase - and I found it gives one especially nice B/W picture!

But the gains in compressiblity are tremendous... :D Just take my initial comment literally and you get the idea. BTW, you can just temporarily rename xvidcore.dll and xvidvfw.dll and then drag the new ones to your system32 folder. Enjoy and reverse the process afterwards. For those who don't like the idea, I might post an encoded clip here tomorrow.

Well, there are more radical examples for that tradition around. My favourite computer mag (VERY respectable c't) is reknown for its elaborated 'almost plausible' 'scoops' for April 1st. The meanest part of it, the joke appears in the issue that's out at the end of March (because the next issues appears some days into April).

This time they got a report about RDIF chips (wee little printed circuits that identiy something and for example can trigger a shoplifter alarm) stealthily introduced into the little bumper-stickers people get on their license-plate when they receive the compulsory car inspection. I can imagine how many ppl will go out there and rip these official things off their license plate to make sure nothing's hidden beneath them that could identify them when they're speeding (as the article said)... To replace these stickers could actually cost money, time and some explaning...

Also, revolutionary findings like that a harddisk can be used as a substitute for a navigational system were published. And a friend of mine that works at an ISP once got fooled into telling his boss about the 'little trick' he'd learned from the mag about how some data packets that are marked with a secret tag (or something) are treated preferential.

Ah well, compared with that, this here is a really nice and clean joke in the best tradition of slightly ridiculing something that's perhaps being taken too seriously in the remaining 364 days of a year.

BTW, dMP3 is a fantastic new extension to MP3 that implements for audio pretty much the same idea that many users had for XviD: storing parts that occurr several times only once! Especially electronical music can shrink very small that way...:D Well, it is a joke, to repeat it once again.

I don't understand what your point is, the encode is done anyway, is the quality boost going to be _that_ huge ? Eitherway now you have a good comparision to do between that build of xvid and the future xvid 1.0 final ;)
