I just visited minetonkas website and found out that "disc welder bronze" is now shipping. This is an authouring program that will allow you to burn dvd-audio discs the specs are as follows

24bit PCM 6channel 48khz (without the mlp encoder the max sample rate 96khz would exceed the maximum bitrate for dvd specs)
24bit PCM 2channel 192khz
no menu support no still pictures (will play just like a cd)

the program costs $99
a demo is available at the minetonka website. The demo will allow you to do every thing exept compile an image or burn a disc any editing must be done outside of discwelder

practical uses

taking a decoded a dts file from music videos and making a mixed disc
(dont think decoding dolby digital would be worth it but I have heard some good material in DD for example dixie chicks top of the world tour)

If we can manage to find a way to "back up DVD-A" then we could make mixed discs of all our pre recorded DVD-A material (that would be a dream come true)

I know not every body is not as finatical as I am about dvd-a but I just thought i could start a buzz) once you have heard dvd-a through 6 full range speakers you will never want to listen to a cd again

Reciever Pioneer vsx-811s
dvd player pioneer dv-563a
t.v jvc av20d202 (saving for that wide screen digital set)

practical uses

taking a decoded a dts file from music videos and making a mixed disc transcoding from a lossy to a lossless is just a waste of space.

good point but if you want to make a mixed disc that just played music you would have to make a dts cd and downsample to 44.1khz
at least with dvd-a you could keep the 48khz

B.T.W. I know you could make a standard dvd and just use a black background but I never liked that idea

Any way you have a valid point I just think its cool that the masses can now aford to author there own dvd-a maybe it will spark more interest in the format

or you can make a standered DVD-V and not transcode at all!
