? on Convert Mpg to DVD format using Tmpg

First off, I'm a total newbie to conversions, though not to DVD ripping/editing/etc. I'm trying to convert two 1GB+ mpg2 files to play on my settop DVD player. I d/l TMPGEnc DVD Source Creator for this and so far, so good. I have a question first... is Source Creator actually compressing or degraging the picture quality in any way when it converts or is it just changing the format to be DVD playable? They're both mpeg2 format and the file sizes aren't over a DVD limit so I can't see why (if) it's reencoding it. TIA.

What are the specs of your source, 352x240,352x480,480x480, etc.

Mpeg2 is already dvd compliant, but the audio isn't (44.1k) you'll need to transcode that to 48k.

Source creator will re-encode to the bitrate set, so even if you have a source thats 2500 bitrate 352x240, and settings are at 8000 720x480 it will re-encode to that. (no need to)

Give Tmpgenc dvd author or Dvdlab a try if your source is already compliant. Dvdlab lets you use 480x480, tmpg doesn't.
