View Full Version : Noise shaping in video?

Is it feasible to introduce noise at decoding level to improve precieved image quality when upscaling video playback?
-Like Legato Link and mp3pro do with sound.

Caveat: Acknowledgement that not all people think that noise shaping adds to sound quality.

Not sure this is the right section, but what the heck!

I have exactly the oposite problem.. I want to remove a humming sound from a video piece..

By now i've found a way to extract the sound from the vob file, and am looking for a tool which will allow me to remove the brum (maybe boost the rest of the audio) and then reinsert this sound with the video (using dvdlab most likely, as it seems to be able to do this).

Thanks for any suggestions, even links inside this forum, as searching has not located a solution yet.. (but I am still searching).

For the moderators of this forum.. I do know how to search, just not what to search for. I am well versed in forum behauviour (10+ years of experience in public fora), as I am a Moderator and most active participant in a totally different forum (Lotus Domino based), as such I know the strain of newbies on such fora. However you and I know that no newbie can search a 20.000 post forum without knowing what to search for..
I guess it would be nice if the faq would have an added section of keywords to search when looking for a specific subject. A listing like:
Combining stuff -> dvdlab, tmepg
Copying, size reduction-> dvdshrink
Audio modification -> ??

I know such a list can never be complete, but well we can dream can't we ?

PS. Just trying to help, as nobody anywhere is perfect, nor does anyone want to be.

Thank you for your reply. However, this is not what I meant.

...to introduce noise at decoding level...
If you mean at playback:) , try to fiddle with ffdshow settings.

Well, I was suffering from sleep depravation and got this thought about somehow using the information from fast fourier to approximate and generate noise in the highest frequency fields in the transform - and beyond. From the very little I know (hence the newbies section : ) of mp3pro, the noise itself is not encoded, but generated at playback.

DetailIllusion looks interesting though.
