Here is my current problem, Premiere Pro does not seem to interpret MPEG-2 video correctly. If I try to play it at all after importing it, it stutters alot. I detelecined it and set the proper frame rate and it is still pretty bad. If anyone has had better luck please let me know, or if anyone has a way of preprocessing the MPEG-2 stream to work better I would really appreciate it.

AMD 2500+ Barton
Soyo Dragon Black Motherboard
512MB PC2700
2 80G "special edition" WD HDs used on a raid for editing
MSI MX440 Video Card.
I would think this would be enough to playback MPEG files in premiere.

your computer is more than fast enough to play dvd, unless youre playing half life 2 in the background. for the sake of discussion, lets assume your not ;)
is your content video or film content? film meaning hollywood film on a dvd or movie on tv... or video like a sports or news broadcast.
if it is film, when you 'detelecined' the video (actual term is inverse telecine or ivtc), did some of the frames recover? if so, then the order is slightly off. it happens. you usually need an indepth program like virtualdub or avisynth to fix it.if its completely bonkers, then i dunno...
if its video, then every frame should look interlaced with horizontal lines. almost every video program has a deinterlace option on it that should do the trick.
