Could anyone tell me what does the "S" letter mean that appears in the "internals" part of the "XviD Status" window that appears on the screen when the encoding is being done?

What I expect to see there is "I", "P" or "B" letters corresponding to the type of frames being created at the moment. Now, the "Ss" are sth I am not able to figure out on my own.

What you get when GMC (Global Motion compensation) gets into action.

I see ...Thanks, Just no guide or FAQ I read ever mentioned them.

By the way - there also must be S-VOPs in DivX? Because it also uses GMC, although one-point only

Is there a writeup anywhere on S frames?
