I have some xvid's with ac3 audio that I'm having trouble playing, so I'd like to convert ac3 to mp3 (I don't need more than simple stereo). Besweet seems the best software for the transcoding, but how to demux audio and video and then mux back together in sync?
I couldn't find an appropriate guide, but feel I'm missing something obvious.
thanks

well i guess, yes you do.
this is best done with virtualdub(mod) just see under vdub procetures in the guides section!
BUT i think you could spare yourself all of the trouble if you explained your actual problem to us (the playback problem of the ac3) - so we could help you play the files properly!
anyway, i'd say before going through the trouble of demuxing, reencoding, remuxing - give ac3filter a shot. it should solve your playback problems :)

Problem is that playback is either out of sync (when using media player classic 6.4.8.0) or choppy (when using zoom player). bsplayer did not do well. The underlying problem is probably the notebook I'm using as a player - 333mhz machine (I was about to buy a new one, then work said it would get me the machine I want in a few months).
The audiofilters pack from this site (iviaudio, mpgaudio, but not morgan switcher) works a bit better than ac3filter, but there isn't much of a difference. ffdshow ac3 was much worse.
At first I thought the problem was with xvid, but xvid's with other audio formats work fine. That's why I thought converting ac3 to mp3 would help. ac3 is just about the only common denominator in videos I've had problems with.
