Firstly, thankyou all for your work on Xvid and particularly this forum. I have learned a lot for someone with no background in video at all.
I have been using Xvid to encode avi's of DVD's so that I can watch on my laptop while travelling. I have been happy with the quality but since I installed v1.0 RC3 (I was using Nic's 30/3/2003 before) I get very dark black vertical bars. They are darker than the horizontal bars. I playback with Powerdvd 5.
Now I found when I install Koepi's standalone decoder (27/12/2003), uninstall it and re-install it, the vertical black bars are gone.
I use Windows 2000 on a Pentium 3 laptop with ati rage video card.
What is the difference between the standalone decoder and the one in RC3?
