I want to build in the subtitles in one xvid-avi, because my portable divx player is with mediatek chipset and can not read sub files.

When I open an avi with VirualDub 1.5.10 it show me this error:
http://www.bgtuning.com/vr2/vbr.gif

After the compilation the new AVI is 800mb(with added ssa) but with delayed audio.

With VirualDub 1.4.7 this VBR problem is missing and the audio is ok too, but the new avi is 2 GB.

Nandub not show me this VBR problem too, but it can not make xvid compression.

Please give me advice . Thank you in advance.

welcome to doom9

make yourself comfortable with the rules again, especially rule 1!

this issue was already discussed a thousand times...

Reencode from your source - this time with hard-coded subs (subs via avs / dvobsub).

@bond - I really sorry. I searched, but not found info.

@communist
Thank you for your help, but I can not undesrtand you. What software I should use?

What bond meant is that if you have obtained that avi file illegally from the net then we cant / wont help ya here with it.

What I meant is if you created that avi and ssa file from a DVD then just rip it again and use avisynth / dvobsub to put your subtitle into you encode.

this avi is not illegaly. This is the exibition in Cebit - a friend send me it he make this avi. I want to show it to my colegues, but first must translate it and to make subttitles. But I received it compressed.
And now I need advice.

Here's what I would do if I were you.

Just rename your ssa subtitles to the name of your movie and use media player classic to playback your video. It will detect the subtitles and play them with your video as long as they are in the same directory. I've done this before with srt subs and it works like a charm, so I'm sure it can do it with ssa subs too.

Alternatively you could mux the avi video and the ssa subs into an mkv container, but then you have to install the mkv splitter.

So there are many ways to solve your problem without having to re-encode.

If your player can handle mp4 or mkv or any other container that allows subtitles then go for it - this is the only way of not having to do a lossy (!) reencode.

Reencoding:

Try reencoding with VirtualDubMod 1.5.4.1 (http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/virtualdubmod/VirtualDubMod_1_5_4_1_All_inclusive.zip?download) or create the ssa file and send it to your friend and let him reencode with the source material -> better quality than reencoding an already heavily compressed xvid file.

Hi-

I don't think some of you guys are reading his requirements well. It has to play on his portable DivX player. So, with respect to bond, I don't think the problem, at least not his exact problem, has been addressed before. He can't use .mp4 or .mkv. He can't play using DirectVobSub through MPC. As communist said, it has to be reencoded.

So, as communist also said, use VDubMod 1.5.4.1, and when that stupid message comes up, say "No". Since he doesn't seem to be familiar with AviSynth, he'll have to re-encode the .avi directly in VDubMod. You'll have to have a version of XviD (http://www.roeder.goe.net/~koepi/xvid.shtml) installed. You will have to do a custom install of VobSub (http://www.doom9.org/Soft21/Subtitles/VobSub_2.23.exe) to get the TextSub Plugin for VDub (put in it your VDubMod 1.5.4.1 Plugins folder). Then after opening the avi in VDubMod, go Video->Compression->XviD->Configure->1-Pass quantizer->Quantizer 3 (or 2), Then go Video->Filters->Add->TextSub 2.23, and add the SSA subs to the avi.

By the way, can you easily do a 1-pass quant 3 (or 2) encode with RC3? I don't know as I haven't installed it yet. So if something has to be done slightly differently, then someone set me straight. Maybe he's got an older version installed, such as Koepi's 6/24/03, in which case, no problem.

Also, you may be able to use the 2 GB avi. I think that your audio got converted to WAV. To confirm that, open that avi in GSpot (http://www.doom9.org/Soft21/Editing/gspot221.exe) and check to see. Or open the avi in VDubMod 1.5.4.1 and go Streams->Streams List and see. If it is WAV, just extract the audio from the original .avi, and replace the WAV audio with the MP3 using Direct Stream Copy. Then the size will be much smaller.

If I didn't understand right, the warning message is for a VBR audio stream. Not sure if I use the best solution, but I demux the audio to a wav file and mux it back in after I'm done reencoding the video, as a CBR mp3 stream. This will avoid the delayed audio.

The rest is to reencode the subtitle stream into the video. Maybe VDubMod can make it easy by just adding the stream in without reencoding the video itself all over??? If not, spear can always use full processing with the vobsub textsub filter, or use avisynth. Then selecting the setup for XviD should help his compression of his final file, which just seems to be uncompressed at this time (reading the huge filesize he gets).

This is how I understand spear's problem.

[edit]

aint that a hoot? VDub 1.4.7 can handle VBR audio it seems...

My audio is not compressed, but VDub not offer me any compression. May be I should install some audio filters or what?

As suggested: just use VirtualDubMod to reencode your file - when asked if you want to rewrite the header - click No!

yes, I did this and result is delayed audio 22000 miliseconds

Since you have Nandub u'll want to use that to handle ur VBR audio. Open the file in VirtualDub and setup ur encode like normal, except disable the audio and demux it to an mp3 file. Run the job in VirtualDub and you will have a no-audio avi file with ur subtitles in there. Now open that file in Nandub and mux in the mp3 file that u previously demuxed from the original file. Now u'll have a working avi file with VBR mp3 audio.

if it's just delayed audio, u can correct that by insert that data into the interleave tab. but only if it's delayed and not stretched or skewed otherwise. then you'll need to recompress to a wav file again, and reencode it, like vdub(mod) says.

I found the solution. Just go to Audio/Compression and choose compression. Then the movie is with normal size, because video and audio is compressed.
Thanks to all here.

Man, I really have to agree with manono on this one. How can you click No when the box only gives OK? The forum rules thing was quite a miss, and then communist manages to confuse rule 1 with rule 6. Can you say "warm welcome"? Nice to know that after a lot of hammering in the dark a solution was found though. Welcome to Doom9 spear .

VDubMod asks "Yes" or "No" ;)
