TV Quality

My TV is getting ever worst in quality and i have only brought it for less than 6 months.

I live in UK and i can see the frame having some "pattern" on it.

I wanted to ask degrade in quality of TV is it so fast or are there a lot of other factor influence the quality?

TV can work for more than 8 years (at least) whitout problems. You should return it.

your source can impact quality -- bad cables or connectors, for example. Check your connections. You could also be receiving interference from other equipment nearby.

If replacing cables doesn't improve things, then arrange for repair or replacement by your manufacturer or dealer. Warrantees vary by country; check yours.

if it's still under warranty, then definitely ring the vendor and ask them to send somebody to look at it.

26 years? wow. my old TV lasted a good while, but it needed the tube replaced a few times. when it was needing repairs every 3 months we decided a new one was in order.

looks like sony weren't always crap for build quality (although i hear trinitrons have always been very nice, and possibly will continue to be)

I used to have a old '13 TV that was at least 30 years old. I worked well although near the end it would go really green. Then I would kick it really hard or punch it depending on the mood I was in and it would be ok for another couple of hours. I got rid of it when I got my new TV about 3 years ago. But it is funny the old TVs were really build to last I think the new TVs are build to break right after the warranty expires. If you can get 8 years out of them you have done well ... hopefully if yours has broken then it will still be under warranty.

Speakers and other magnets near your tv influence the quality :D

- let it fall down the closet/table
(if the TV is still working, the hole-grid (Lochmaske?!?) will definately give a nice false-color and moire-effect)

- spill out the water of the nice flowers placed on top of the TV :)

- TV on to of a Speaker

- Radio-Clock on Top of TV

- and of course: the human being in Front of the TV , hehe

what are you using to watch tv?
* antenna
* cable / decoder box

and how are they connected?

if you are using an antenna, are your sending it through your VCR first? is the cable good quality?

the thicker the better, use thick heavy duty coaxial cable, and if you are making your own, use quality RF connectors.

if you are using a cable decoder, connect it via, Composite / S-Video, to get the best results and make sure you are using good quality cables.

what is the cable decoder sitting on top of? make sure the cable decoder is away from any DVD players and other devices.

note: DVD players are known to cause interferance.

if all else fails, return the TV, or if the colour screwed, get it demagnitized.

i reckon it is probably the scart lead, they usually have up to 21 unsheilded wires running in parrallel with each other and often video-out from the tv gets picked up on the video-in.
