Hi,
I got my hands on a chinese EVD and I'd like to play it on my PC.
It includes the following files :
EVD.HDR (100 Ko)
SEG_1.DAT (118 Mo)
SEG_2.DAT (91,1 Mo)
SEG_3.DAT (7,16 Go)
I heard it was VP5/VP6 encoded so I downloaded the codecs from www.on2.com, and also the VP5 player Truecast. I then tried to open Seg_3.dat in WMP and Truecast. It detects the correct lengh (01'49'03), resolution is 720 x 480, but the video stays black and the sound is also not recognized... Well, any ideas would be welcome !
Thanks a lot,
Christophe

Have you tried with a mpeg2 decoder ?
There was some discussion some times ago and a EVD hardware developper said that VP6 for EVD was bullshit, and that he was working with mpeg2.
But the bitstream must be different from a DVD so ....

On2Tech or Compress should be able to help you.
Send them a PM. Just do a serach on the board for VP6 and
you should see their posts/profiles.
I am curious myself how it works, please let us know.
Thanks.

any update on this?
i've searched around but can only see a few threads on this subject.
i'm trying to playback a evd and have tried the on2tech software - zplayer/media player and even power dvd recognises the video and opens it but i just get a black screen with no audio.
anyone know any software that may work?

obviously the stream has drm, which prevents you from playing it

But I have a problem. I only can see this (it seems there is only version in Chinese):

I've tried to choose some options, but nothing works.

Replace the "skins" folder in the main directory with the one in the rar and do also copy there the "video.ini" file.

Done. It works. :)
Thanks again.
And what codec does it use? The video is 1280x1080. The disk is only 7.7 Gb for 2 hours. So, it's only 7.5 Mbps. Is this a VPx (MPEG2 needs greater bitrates I think)?

Can't find this button. I've clicked all options of all menus and saw "MPEG1".

MuTeK how do you know that it is definately VPx now ?
