JVC XV-N50 PAL question

i have a dvd player that plays PAL and NTSC, when i play PAL versions somestimes they play Fullscreen when they are widescreen and sometimes they play widescreen. Anybody have any ideas why this does that?

When using a scart lead with a dvd player connected to a tv, it can send a signal which switches the Tv from widescreen to fullscreen. So it could be a faulty scart cable. or something else.
