Inserting f******g beeps into a video

My little darling daughters want to watch Love Actually so I've edited certain scenes out (most of which involve a couple engaged in a close working relationship :) ) but now I want to put some f*****g beeps (or maybe some comedy farmyard sounds maybe ) in to cover up the "fruitful" language in places.

If anyone has done something similar, I'd be interested in hearing from you (AppplyRange? Trim?? Fadein.out?)

Trying to get from an 18 to a 12A :)

Hmm, you can do it this way:

*) convert the audio track to WAV
*) use a (semi-)pro-audio editor like Sony Soundforge, Steinberg Wavelab or Adobe Audition to generate a 5 sec test tone, a 440 HZ A will do. Copy it to the clipboard.
*) mark the regions of the words you'd like to beep out
*) now you can either mute the word (which I think far less annoying like beeping) or use the function "Copy special - Overwrite" (in Soundforge, I'm sure all the other will have something similar) to overwrite the word with the test tone.

or ApplyRange + AmplifyDB(0.0) if you want silence.

hmm.. i think most bleeps on TV are at 1kHz... at least that's what i used in a (very dodgy) movie i made last year. it sounded okay.

bleeping is also very useful when somebody is talking rubbish, or is nervous and keeps saying things such as "like" or "i mean", or "umm"

add a few bleeps over these dull words and it becomes much more interesting :):)

However, I didn't insult anybody, I wasn't lecturing to the public (but clearly speaking to siwalters - while stating that it was just my point of view), and the issue had nothing to do with morale but with educating resp. upbringing kids, which is an issue that's very important to me, since I'm very very interested in social pedagogics (my mom works in this field, with homeless kids and kids with what is now called 'creative behaviour'). So I was a little off topic along the way of actually posting an answer to siwalters question. I didn't think that this would be against the rules, since I've read like a thousand threads where someone would talk about f.e. some rare Anime-DVD with a weird telecine-pattern and someone else would post and answer while bringing up that he likes the movie and ask if he'd seen this other title from the same studio called "XYZ". You know what I mean?

Back to business.

@siwalters: I think that you'd be actually better off if you'd use a wave-editor, you'll surely be a lot faster (and more precise) than with ApplyRange(). If you need the audio inside AviSynth, just use AudioDub() afterwards. If you don't have a WAV-Editor, just do a quick search for "wave editor", there are lot's of shareware and freeware programs that are suited for that task.

Just for clarity. AFAIC the problem is not so much that you tried to discuss certain morals with someone. In my opinion, your post was a bit insulting, or at least offensive. Maybe not on purpose. That's why I edited it out. If you forgot what you wrote, I can mail it to you for rereading.

I suggest we drop it and continue with the discussion :)
