Something weird happened with a DVD I made (analogue home movies)

Captured several video tracks using Pinnacle DC10+, edited and output to mpeg format with Studio 8. Used TMPenc to throw together a menu and burned DVD with nero 6.

Tested the DVD on my playstaion2 and it worked fine. I could select the different tracks (these would show highlighted in yellow) and I thought it was great because I read somewhere "if it works on PS2 it will work just about anywhere else!"

Later on I tried playing the same DVD on a LG (didnt check out model but it's about 2 years old) and I couldn't select/ highlight menu tracks! I mean, I could select the tracks but they would just not highlight, making it a bit of a guess work to select the right one!

Any suggestions as to what the bloddy heck is going on here?

Also, are there any other better MENU authoring programs out there? I'm using TMPenc trial version but am not impressed with choice of menus or with the degree of customization of these. In other aspects the program is quite good, but I really need to be able to customize the menus more (ie choose where the buttons go, how many per page, etc)

Thanks

Without going too crazy, price-wise, I would suggest either DVD Lab, or the now-defunct SpruceUp.

Generally-speaking, a DVD menu-building program is also, as a consequence, a VOB multiplexer, and a VOB mutliplexer is essentially a DVD-authoring program. Therefore, although there are programs which will help you create menu assets (for instance, MediaChance's DVD Menu Studio), in order to truly author a menu, you are going to need a DVD-authoring program.

HTH.

Could be the issue of subpicture (buttons) aspect ratio - "VTSM_PGCI_UT/PGC-MENU_X/Sub-picture stream 1 status" as seen in IfoEdit.

But I totally agree with Arky. Try DVDLab or as another suggestion, if you are willing to try freeware dvdauthor, you may use almost any image editing program (such as Photoshop, Macromedia Fireworks, etc.) that supports PNG format for menu buttons and background and use dvdauthor/spumux for multiplexing a menu.
