Hi
I use ffdshow 20040523 and windows media encoder 9.0 to change a xvid dvdrip avi into a cbr 500K wmv.
It is so slow when encoding.
Is there any other tools or methods can do this much faster?
Thanks

If your intention is to have a .wmv file, then you're pretty much stuck with Windows Media Encoder 9. And it is indeed very slow. Unless you have a quad gazillion-gigahertz Opterons and they somehow optimize wmv for it. :)

Converting *ivX files to WMV format (http://mcored.2minnoodle.net/knowledgebase/index.htm)is may be for you. :)
With P4 3.00 GHz, I convert a DivX/XviD movies to WMV8 in 39 minutes; to WMV9 in 4 hours. I would suggest you to use WMV8 for this purpose.

I find the quality to be amazing with WMV9. That is, if you set it to the highest quality settings. Even at lower bitrates, this codec really shines. But it is beyond slow. A two pass encode, using VirtualDub with Avisynth, at 720x480 resolution, takes about 8 hours, to do a 1 hour 45 minute movie. This is on a P4-3.06 HT PC.
-Some people have stated that they had issues using Avisynth with WMV9. I had no issues using the latest codec version and the latest Avisynth.

don't choose 2-pass encoder
it will take more time
but if you wannna make a .wmv file of good quality
i suggest you would choose VBR mode to encoding
