I have realy old real video clip, the 4cc code is RV10. I can't play this clip in MPC with the DS filters, but when I switch it to be handled by RealMedia in the formats settings, it plays fine. I would like to mux it to mkv though, but it won't work because DS has a problem with it.
Is it possible to convert the RV10 to RV40 or something, or is this a bug/limitation with the DS filter.

Try installing ffdshow.

I see there is a new Real 10 now which uses RV10 4cc. Was 4cc RV10 also used for very old real video clips too? The clip I have is definitely too old to be RealVideo 10.
I tried ffdshow but it didn't work - how do I get MPC to use ffdshow for realmedia?
thanks
I get the following from MPC.

RV10 is RealVideo 1.0 (as in Real 5.0)
RV20 is RealVideo G2 (6) and G2+SVT (7)
RV30 is RealVideo 8
RV40 is RealVideo 9 and 10, since RealVideo 10 has the same bitstream format as 9
I am afraid I don't know why RealMediaSplitter can not play RealVideo 1.0, probably just too old for gabest to spend much time on. As it happens, RealVideo 1.0 was just H.263 anyway.

Thanks for the clarification karl - would it be possible to play the RV10 file as H.263?

yes, if the player knows how to parse the headers and RM fileformat. I think mplayer decodes RealVideo 1.0 using a generic H.263 decoder, but I am not sure.

For me RV10 is played perfectly using ffdshow. You have to install a newer build from Athos and enable RV10 decoding. Note: RV20 decoding is activated toghether with it! Because it doesnīt work yet correctly it will result in crashing playback of RV20 files. Media Player Classic will work anyway, because it uses itīs own decoder for RV20.
It seems that RV20 is also just H.263, but with B-Frames. Maybe decoding already works in ffmpeg correctly. Have to make myself a new build when CVS is online again.

Thanks S_O
Knowing that it should work, I tried again. Seems that there was something strange with MPC's settings. I just deleted the .ini file and started over - problem solved.
It now works fine with the latest ffdshow from Athos. :D
Thanks to everyone ;)
