i'm trying to create a basic dvd of camcorder footage. i want the main menu to have a button to play the entire disc and a button to link to another menu to select by scene then to return to the scene selection menu after each scene is finished. the only way i have been successful at doing this is to load the footage twice. on one of them, set chapters and menu return marks at the end of each chapter. and on the duplicate of the footage, not add any return marks. the problem with this method is that i'm using roughly twice the amount of space i need. i shouldn't have to have 2 copies of the same video in order to accomplish this. i've worked for several hours in pinnacle 9 and ulead mf. neither one of them will do what i want. this is pretty basic stuff and what i'm trying to do is a feature available on just about every retail dvd out there. isn't there a way i can set a return mark at the end of each chapter but ONLY if the scene was accessed by the scene select menu? if i use the same footage for both features, even when i want to play the entire thing, once it reaches the end of a chapter it'll jump back to the scene selection menu instead of playing all the way through because of the return marks. if i don't set return marks, it'll play past the chapter i wanted to watch but i want it to return to the select menu after it's done playing a selected chapter. someone please help. there's no way i need to put a duplicate of the footage on the disc to make this work...or do i???

Of course you don't need to put your footage twice, but I don't think you can author such a DVD in any cheap software. If you want to do it properly, you'll need to use Scenarist or the like.

There are two ways of doing this:
1. Create a separate title for each chapter, and one more title that would include all the video tracks for Play All. This last title is just an extra PGC that refers to the same video material. You can see examples of this on many TV show DVDs where they have Select Episode and Play All.

2. You can author a DVD in whatever program you're using now creating chapter selection menu. Then you'll have to add cell command in IfoEdit at the end of every chapter with a conditional jump LinkTailPGC. You'll have to use a GPRM as a flag that would indicate whether you selected a chapter or Play All. We discussed this approach in this thread (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=72316), although conditional commands are not detailed there. Important: in this scenario, the Play All playback won't be seamless, i.e. you'll get a small pause between the chapters. In order to make your DVD more compatible, you will have to set playback type to 2 (non-seamless) for a first cell of every chapter in IfoEdit.
