Hello again
I´m encoding credits alltimes separatly with GK, with the standard settings. Now I´m in trouble with the quality of the credits. I would to improve the quality of them. I´v tried to set the quantiser value in the options tab, but when it goes to the encoding (save and encode) the value on the "Codec" tab isn´t changed. I´v changed this value manually. I´v tried values of 20, 16 and 9 but only the filesize of the encoded credits files have changed. I can´t see any improvement on the encodet file. I know the credits setting is only 1 pass and this should be not a great result. But i only look for a result that I can see with "normally" eyes.
Thanks for your comments.

Hi-
I'm not sure I understand your question fully. The credits encoding is set in the Credits Tab of XviD. Is that where you're setting them? Mine is no longer the default, but if I remember correctly, the default is for 20%, which will give you OK, but still not perfect looking credits. So, either raise the percentage, or set it for a quant value. If you have tried 20%, 16%, and 9% in that order, then the credits will be getting progressively worse looking, and the file size will be getting smaller.
If you have scrolling white on black credits, and the problem is the trailing white stuff, then try adding this to the bottom of your credits.avs:
coloryuv(gain_y=8,off_Y=-8, opt="coring")
and see if that helps at all.
If that doesn't answer the question, then please ask again.

Hello manono
The credits encodig tab of GK is the right one but DivX not XviD. The default parameter is 20 but no %, this is a "quantiser" value, so I understand. It means 37% of ??? Quality???. If U change this value to 9, U should get a better looking video I think. (Quantiser 9 value means 73% as I remember). But the encoded file is just bigger in filesize and it looks not much better.
BTW the changed value in the options tab of GK would not be taken over in the "encoding" tab. I mean the one that pops up aftzer U made all settings and klick at "Save and encode" in the "second" GK window, then U´l be asked for the path to "filename credits.avs" and "filename movie.avs". Another window pops up. Then U have to select your audio file and its processing. Then U go to the "left" tab of this window and in the lower part U see credits parameter at 20. I´ve just to changed them although I´v changed them in the "options" tab of GK. ( I ´v to describe the settings because I´m not at home yet)
If you have scrolling white on black credits, and the problem is the trailing white stuff, then try adding this to the bottom of your credits.avs:
coloryuv(gain_y=8,off_Y=-8, opt="coring")I will try this later it seems to be good. Is there a way to fix this setting in GK or have I to change this setting allways manually.

Wow-
I did misunderstand. A lot. :) But then you didn't say which codec. But I should have figured out you that meant DivX from your comments.
Many people don't care what the credits look like, and they don't mind using those high quants. But if you want them to look almost normal, then quant 20 is no good. Quant 16 is no good, and quant 9 may be passable, but they won't really look normal until you use a lower quant, 5 or 6 maybe. If when changing from 20 to 16 to 9, you see the file sizes getting larger, then you can be sure that credits encoding is working. And if you want them to look really good, then don't do a separate credits encode, but just do them as part of the main movie.
That ColorYUV line will help them to look better, but you'll have to add it every time to the .avs. What it does is a coring operation. It turns off-black grey stuff to pure black, so the milky white stuff that high quant credits encoding creates will look more black. It's not perfect, but it's pretty good. I've found when using it, that quant 10-12 credits look pretty good, if not normal, and that quant 20 credits look almost good. But you sound as if you're particular about how the credits look, so you may not like the results. It does turn thin font credits to slightly grey, but it's pretty good on nice thick white credits. Don't use it in the movie, or on the kind of credits that have pictures or video as part of them. And another way to save bits in the credits is to do them with BilinearResize, even if you do the main movie with LanczosResize.
