I'm a Noob around here so can i ask a really dumb question?
Is WMV-9 derived from M$ work on an MPEG-4 codec, or did they totally abbandon that. They still use stuff like DCT, i,p,b frames, motion compensation etc. right?

There used to be 2 guys representing M$ on WMV9 around here, but they've just vanished. I believe they're the only ones who can give you a satisfactory answer to your queries. :) Well, somebody might be able to answer some of it though.

seems m$ is trying hard to push their hd stuff as they next dvd forum meeting will probably show if it will be used in hd-dvd or not
tough anyways i am sure that the hd files/pseudo dvds available till now are surely not compatible with the to come hd-dvd format, its all about marketing till now
btw if you want to check out some mpeg-4 (xvid) encoded hd files, have a look at this thread (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=68292), seemoredigital made some nice samples, especially this one (http://82.2.167.24/Uploaded_Files/Doom9_Forum_files/Wild_Things.zip) is great :D

The VFW version doesn't have B-frames, only I and P, i assume this is true for the normal version as well.
