CCE speed difference of 20% with same CPU!

I have two machines here, both with an Athlon xp2400+ running at 2100 MHZ and 140 MHZ FSB. Both have 256 MB DDRRam for this Test. Both have an IBM Harddisk with 7200 RPM. Both use win2k. On exactly the same source material, with exactly the same settings, one machine runs at 1.8, the other runs at 1.5. Amazing! The fast mobo is an Epox 8kha+, the slow one is an ASROCK K7VT2. Both boards use the VIA KT266 Chipset! But still 20% more performance with the Epox mobo. Is this really possible? The potential differences are (aside from the obvious mobo) the age of the installation (faster is a very clean install), the size of the HD (120MB vs 80 MB), and the RAM sticks. I will try to rule out those influences too. Can anyone confirm that a mobo can make such a difference? Or ist there a suggestion of what to do to speed up the ASROCK?

The speed can depend of the programs installed. It can depend of the system services running and hidded programs running. Look to the Task Manager to see the difference of running services on the two machines. But who knows, maybe like you say, the motherboard can make the difference, but I'm not sure.

On both machines, the process is at 99% CPU time. And to make sure, I reloaded a fresh install image and tried from there - same thing. The Mobo makes for a 20% speed difference!

In an ASRock Forum, I downloaded a beta Bios which I flashed. After that, the speed difference was only half of what it had been. The ASRock now reaches 1.65

To me, thats good enough for a Mobo that only cost a third of the other.

i also have two identical machines also running the exact same specs except that one uses a 2000+ and one uses a 2400+

i upped the fsb of my 2000+ to 138 (high as it will go stable) and i get an average of .78

With my 2400+ stock speeds (133fsb) I will get about .95 doing the same movie and when i upped my fsb to 151 (2.21g stable) i get about 1.25....so i'm guessing the extra fsb really helps when it comes to cce
