I am a total newbie, and have searched these forums but have found no clear answer to my question, how can I put .MPG files on to DVD and play them on my stand alone player?

Hello, TMRayfield, welcome to Doom9's forum.

If your .mpg is MPEG-2, and has a DVD compliant resolution, you'll need to author and burn.

If your .mpg is MPEG-1, you'll need to transcode it to MPEG-2.

There are several guides at www.doom9.org that may by helpful: In the Format Conversions (http://www.doom9.org/conversionguides.htm) page, there is a guide for SVCD -> DVD without re-encoding. SVCD stands for Super Video CD, which are MPEG-2.

If you need to transcode to MPEG-2, or reencode to a compliant resolution, you may be able to take advantage of other "___ -> DVD" conversion guides, such as AVI -> DVD.

You will probably want to read through some of the guides in the DVD / miniDVD Guides (http://www.doom9.org/mpg/dvdr-guides.htm) section.

Using the button described in my signature, I found this thread (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=72056&highlight=mpeg1+mpeg2), which has a link to an application that should work for you.

VirtualDubMod can give such an information. Load the mpg (File-Open). Then File-File information - in a new window you have almost everything about the file.

Okay, so I have a number of Mpeg-1 movies, and I want to put them on a DVD that can be played on a stand alone player. Is this possible? If so what is the easiest way?
