I have some custom made DVD in half-D1 resolution (352x480)
and AR=4:3 (reported by DVD Decrypter).
I found that AutoGK chooses a tall image (about 1:1.5)
instead of 4:3. am I out of luck here?

I guess that the AR specified in the stream is used to select the "magic numbers" in the AVS script only. After that, AutoGK will solely rely on the pixel ratio of width/height of the frame.
When the frame differs too much from the AR specified, e.g. 352x480 vs 4:3 for half-D1 DVDs, this arrangment will lead to a wrong decision of output width and height. In this case, the height is too large.
