View Full Version : What is the best Mpeg1/2 encoder for noisy captures?

To be clear, I am NOT talking about ripping DVDs. I do mostly VHS or TV captures. The results have been OK but I would like "perfect" results. Up to now I've been using TMPGEnc with KVCD templates.

For my avisynth scripts, I've been using PixieDust and an experimental filter that reduces background noise.

The biggest problems I run into are macroblocks, blocking in high-action screnes and a strange grainy effect when encoding noisy sources. I have tried all kinds of filters but this combo produces the best result out of avisynth (on noisy sources).

Any ideas?

Try MEncoder with my new GUI DRPEnc 0.2.0.6 RC6a.

I added many denoise filters into it.

Thanks, I'll give it a try.

Does MEncoder suffer from macro blocks like TMPGEnc?

Edit: Is there a guide on avi to KVCD with your Gui?

You should use TMPGEnc with AviSynth and some good filters and you can mak you material better. TMPGEnc is (for me :D ) the best MPEG-Encoder.
