Hello,

I recentely converted my .avi to a dvd through tmpgenc. I chose CBR Mpeg-1 Layer II (MP2) for my audio and my end result had great quality but no sound at all. The .avi's had sound and had a ac3 codec installed. Could VBR be the right setting for me to get sound?

Settings used in TMPGenc:

Rate Control Mode: 2-pass VBR

Motion Search Position: Highest Quality

Thanks.

Two things:
1. I think you're confusing video and audio settings. The only settings related to sound are in the Audio section. Mpeg-1 Audio Layer II is the right choice, but it has nothing to do with the video settings such as CBR/VBR, Motion search precision, Rate control mode, etc. The only setting you might want to change is audio bitrate, which is normally between 192 and 256 kbps for stereo sound.

2. TMPGEnc can't handle AC3 sound. It accepts only PCM (.wav) or MPEG (mpa, mp2) audio. However, you can encode video only, demultiplex original AC3 sound track, and then add it to your DVD.
