I backed up my LOTR: TTT Extended Edition using the Big 3 method. The backup is perfectly fine, however the sound quality on the backup seems less than the original. I notice this on the Dolby Digital 5.1 track. Is there any reason why the sound quality would be different, or am I hearing things?

hi kds987 and welcome to the forum!
to the best of my knowledge the audio from your back-up should be an exact replica of your original as there is no compression/alteration of the source audio in the 'big 3' process.
there has been mention of corrupt audio in a few threads recently but if that was the case, scenarist would have issues when re-muxing.
how exactly does it sound 'less than the original'? volume? clarity?
i know that a few other forum members have backed up this particular disc recently and may comment on their experiences.

big3 does not resample/process the ac3/dts tracks in any shape or form.

Yes, I always assumed there was no resampling. I have probably done ~40 backups with the Big 3 and never thought twice. However, I could swear it is louder on the original than the backup when Helm's Deep explodes. Now, I am entirely open to the possibility that I am hearing an imaginary difference. I just wanted to know for sure whether this process could in any way affect the audio.

Thanks for your replies :)
