Im still kind of a newbie here, and have been reading up on how to extract audio from a dvd. The purpose is to have normal cd's of the audio. whether downmixing a 5.1 or just using the 2.0 track is the best im still unsure of? also, does the method described here work well for this task?

I was under the impression a wav file had to be at a sample rate of 44.1khz, it says to leave it at 48?

I appreciate the help. or pointers to the right help files somewhere!

Rip the DVD using an IFO parsing ripper and then use BeSweet to extract the audio and make a 44kHz wav (CD's won't work with anything else).
