View Full Version : Can't see border round menu

I am authoring some still menus which use a still image from the start of each chapter I want to play.
The background, with 6 images, was put together in photoshop and each image has a border which should change colour when that image is selected.
I have set the borders to 17 pixels and filled them with red.
When I preview the 'finished product' I can't see all of the borders.
One line of images has top and bottom displayed, and the other line has just four dots, one in each corner, surrounding the image.
If the border is too narrow at 17 pixels, why is some of it displayed?

It could be to do with the aspect of the menu. What aspect ratio is the graphic? the highlights should be the same for 4:3. But for 16:9 you need 2 highlights, one for 4:3 and 16:9. If you give it a 4:3 highlight but tell the software it's 16:9 this will throw up some problems.
It isn't the thickness of the boarder, at 17pixels that's more than thick enough.

It may also be because of anti-aliasing in Photoshop, and your red border isn't really red. In this case, you should convert your color mode to Indexed Color in Photoshop. Check out this guide this guide (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=39172)that describes the process.

The menu is a simple 4:3 with just the one sub picture.
Anti-aliasing is off in photoshop cs.
The red used is 255 pure red so scenarist should see it no problem.
However, having folowed Dimmer's advice and that in the link provided regarding indexing colours, the problem seems to have been cured.
It looks like it was the colour indexing......
Many Thanx for all your time and trouble :)

I don't know what program you are using for authoring, but in DVD SP 2 you can choose whether to use Chroma mapping or Greyscale mapping, in which case, greyscale mapping might also have solved your problem. Anyway, you got there in the end, so that's the main thing :)

Ah, maybe that's the problem, V3 is very buggy and where I work, we haven't changed to it yet as it isn't as stable as version 2.x
Which build of V3 are you running?

V3.0.0.96484

You could try the newest version V3.0.1 Build 121142. This is the lastest, and it might have fixed the issue. Otherwise try to replicate the problem with either a different scenario and new menus. If you can, then it's probably a bug, and you should report it to Sonic.
Without seeing the graphic/scenario I can't suggest anything else.

Actually guys, I think it's not a Scenarist issue but Photoshop. I had the same issue with the menu buttons (I use Scenarist 2.7). I was absolutely positive that I turned off anti-aliasing before filling the button areas with pure red color, but still after I exported it into 24-bit BMP, opened it in MS Paint and zoomed in, it was anti-aliased. You can easily check it: when converting to indexed color, select Exact palette and look at the number of colors. If it's more than four, than the picture isn't perfect. Just for fun, you can convert it to indexed color this way and then go to Image - Mode - Color Table, and you'll see all possible shades of pink or whatever color you used.
I think Photoshop does that to smooth the curves. If you fill a rectangle with color, this anti-aliasing effect doesn't happen.

I agreee with dimmer :)
The problem is with my use of photoshop....
When I indexed the colours it solved the problem.
