Need recommendation on capture card

Hello!

What I want to do is capture video from TV via coxial input, then edit out commercials, etc. I'd prefer to use VirtualDub as the editing software. So looking for a capture card that can capture standard NTSC resolutions @ 30fps.

Preferably, I'd like to have one that has software that will emulate a TiVO's functionallity -- basically a digital VCR type thing where I can have it set to automatically record programs of certain names/times. Not a requirement but would be a nice feature.

My price range is $200 or below. Currently, I have Radeon 9700Pro and would prefer keeping that as my primary card and just add in a PCI capture card.

There are quite a few choices in that price range. I use the aver studio card ($40.00) with pretty good results.

If you want to capture directly to mpeg with pretty good quality then id recommend a WinPVR 250. It has hardware mpeg2 encoding, but I dont think it can capture raw avi however. They run just over $100 last time I checked.

I get very acceptable (at least to me anyway) results with my Leadtek Winfast 2000 Deluxe PCI card. I use the latest Leadtek posted drivers and capture with VirtualVCR. For scheduled captures, I use VVCR2 Scheduler. Just set the schedule, put your computer to sleep and it wakes up, does the capture and goes back to sleep. Does not even bother to wake up my monitor. I use Pegasus' PICVideo MJPEG Codec for capture, VDub to edit and DIVX 5.1.1 to compress. To clean up the audio, I strip the wave file and run it through the Magix Audio Cleaning Lab before converting to MP3. Although intended for record and cassette tape conversion, it does a wonderful job (again, at least to me anyway) of cleaning up the audio from video captures. Hope this helps. Enjoy!
