Does producer use Overlay mode by default while encoding or is this the result of the used (directshow) codec?
I'm asking this because if the encoding process starts before eg. running my tv app (dscaler) i can't load it, because it needs to create an overlay area, which already has been used by RealAnime.

producer don't use overlay by default. check ffdshow settings and disable overlay.

As you assumed correctly i use ffdshow as codec but i did turn of the overlay mixer and it still uses overlay (or doesn't let other programs create one for that matter)

nope, nothing pops up while encoding. It's just that when i start to encode first another program can't create an overlay-surface anymore.
Could it be that avisynth creates an overlay surface in some way?

overlay is for displaying, but nothing is displayed when you encode...
you should rename your thread to "producer & overlay", since this have nothing to do with RealAnime.

It's the directshowsource function that creates a overlay surface for itself. How to prevent it from doing that other than starting up the tv prog first i still don't know.
