View Full Version : XVID Encodes too dark

Well, I know that this is not an AutoGk issue.
But with the new XVID 1.0 RC3-Koepi, I get much too dark Encodes.
Over at the XVID Forum they are discussing this problem to.
It seems to me that this is because of changing Color Ranges, because on manual rips done with GordianKnot this doesn't occur.
If someone can give me a hint how to solve this?
With DIVX 5.11 everything is okay, so maybe I screwed up my XVID Installation?
Thanks in Advance

try lumafilter() in avisynth.

Is it possible to use filters in avisynth when using AutoGK?

No, not possible. And you're not the first to notice that the RC3 makes dark videos:

If necessary, you can brighten it up in the Overlay settings of your video card. Or don't use 1.0 RC3.

I used to set DX50 fourcc on Xvid encodings and play it with Divx decoder. It has excellent brightness/contrast/saturation controls for my opinion. At least very comfortable, no need to go into the video driver settings.

I wonder if I should boost brightness by default within AutoGK. Any suggestions for exact filter settings ?

hm i dont get noticable darker pictures with xvid rc3

taurus,
try decoding the xvid stream with other decoders like ffdshow, divx5, 3ivx aso and report if they are also dark

Thanks for all the replies.
Right now I'm doing several test encodes in AutoGk and Gknot to get some screenshots.
If the behaviour is clear to see, I will upload some to make a decision for yourself.
The XVID decoder that comes with Koepies RC3 is quite allright.
It decodes old and new rips of mine almost perfectly.
Sure, I know that I could gain more light or contrast with the Divx Decoder or ffdshow, but that's not the way it meant to be...
-----------------------------------
Edit:
Strange behaviour!
Some short clips of the same footage i've encoded befor now seem to be allright.
Divx AND Xvid clips now look the same (I mean lighting and contrast).
Don't know what happend the other day.
And the darkness is gone.
Puh, beta exercising can be tough, don't know what triggered this malfunction.
I will report if it's happening again.
Thanks for your assistance.

i think this sometimes happens because of the graphics card or so...

Some graphic drivers support automatic game profiles.
Maybe those profiles could screw up the brightness or other settings of the overlay mixer.
