i thought that a while ago i used a mkv file directly into tmpg encoder.
Now, a while later i want to try it again but it won't do it anymore. I've installed a lot of other convert programs and filters, maybe that is causing trouble?

Yeah sorry man. you have no idea how many times i've posted these questions and about how many methods (on a lot of other sites also). Any way i've got another couple of thing s to try again, but the thing is, nothing seems to work. perhaps one of these methods works. :o

(if this doesn't work i'm gonna assume that there's something wrong with the files and i'll give up

It can be done, but only if you get rid of any extra streams besides the audio that you want (assuming the audio codec is recognized) and the video. This includes embedded subtitles.

There is a program called Matroska Stream Editor that will get rid of extra streams for you. If you want the subs, you can demux them using VirtualDubMod, and use whatever method you use to render them.

But, (for me) it almost always works better to demux to avi/wav with Graphedit
