View Full Version : DVD Shrink auto split function?

I can't seem to find a function that allows me to split a DVD across 2 discs in DVD Shrink. I currently use DVD Fab for lossless backups but that does not have a nice inbuilt burner function like DVD Shrink does.
Is there any chance of adding an option (If it does not exist already and I missed it) to auto split an entire DVD or movie only (Losslessly) across discs in DVD Shrink?

DVD Shrink doesn't have an auto split function but as for that feature to be implemented, there's no chance. http://forum.digital-digest.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=30700

You can still use DVDShrink to do two-disk backups though. One of my favorite things to do is do a movie-only backup on disk 1, then shrink the movie to still frames on disk 2 (which usually lets me backup extras with no compression).
For movies I prefer this approach over DVDFab because I can watch the movie without getting up to change the disk. I usually reserve DVDFab for episodic disks that don't work well in DVDShrink (all episodes in one title and few extras, for example).

Kedirekin, thanks for this simple but clever tip.

That may work if you can get the movie on disc 1 and the extras on disc 2. But what if the movie is bigger than 1 disc and you don't want to recompress it?

I guess for the time being your stuck splitting and burning separately. As 2COOL mentioned, development on DVDShrink has stopped (dropped to maintenance mode). You might be able to hit up one of the splitting tool developers (like DVDFab, DVDSplitter, or maybe DVDReMake) to implement split-and-burn.
Although ... I don't know if it occurred to you, but a one click that will split and burn is kind of a contradiction in terms. How would it burn two disks without user intervention?

If you use reauthor mode then you can use the "start end" feature to put the first half of the movie on one disc and then just author the other half to another disc. You can even span your movie across 12 discs or more this way if you want. Just reauthor one chapter to a disc if you like. The "start end" feature is very useful although I think it is only available in reauthor mode.

Unless you have 2 burners or three, one to read and two to burn the separate DVDs. It is possible but who would be bored enough to come up with a tool like this though?
