My NEC 1300A burned several backups and movies with Verbatim DVD-R.
New blanks I got are not recognized as being empty disks.
Maxell DVD-R
Sony DVD+R

Both of these media are on the approved list from NEC.

Isn't there a program that can determine the true media label?

Any thoughts??

Appreciated!!!

DVD Decrypter will show you basic media info in Write mode. Just open it and press W.

By the way, if you read around, you'll learn that media brand (Sony, Maxell) has nothing to do with the actual media manufacturer, which could be any cheepo company. Good place to check out media compatibility is www.dvdrhelp.com (http://www.dvdrhelp.com/dvdmedia).

I guess this is going to be trial and error.
I picked up 3 SONY DVD-R; the first 2 burned perfect, the 3rd one bombed after about 5 seconds.

SONY DVD-R was not on the NEC approved list!

I read them with the decrypter; memorex and maxell did not report a mfg name! ?pirated
