is that the correct spelling? exploding - to blow up; it doesn't matter

today i was checking a dvd (original) on my friend's computer, cause i'd didn't know how to work their dvd player, after that, i had to put back his brother Diablo 2 LOD cd back in or be bitches cause he's to lazy to do anything himself (that's another story), anyway, about 30 sec later, i heard an loud bang (WTF), the dvd-rom outputs partial fragments of the game.

i know the cd was severly scratched, but how does something like this happens?

i already know about the replacment cd throught Blizzard.

It's from an off-center CD. DVD drives spin at very high speeds, and if the disc wobbles it can break and even damage your drive. I'd be very angry at Blizzard for badly produced CDs, even more so because I have a Pioneer DVD-105 (http://www.microwarehouse.co.uk/images/cds_images/I32962.jpg), which has a slit instead of a tray. Try fixing that.

Here's a good read on unbalanced CDs, http://www.mscience.com/faq17.html.

From the FAQ...

Disc damage that chips or deforms the rim does not affect the readout surface but will create unbalance, while modest internal stresses can cause the disc to shatter.
