Your task is a 3 part one.

1. Encode
2. Author
3. Burn

1. Encode. U need a mpeg2 encoder like CCE to transform your avi to mpeg2. U need also a encoder for the audio to a dvd compliant format.

2. Author. After finishing encoding your audio and video, u will need an authoring program to put the streams in a dvd project. ifoedit, Tmpeg DVD Author, Dvdlab, mydvd, dvdeasy etc are all possible candidates as well as the monsters of the scene, Maestro and Scenarist.

Up on completing the authoring stage u will end up with a dvd titleset ready to burn.

3. Burn. Use imgtools classic to create an iso image of your titleset and burn them with dvd decrypter.

Thats all. I hope that I gave you enough info to search upon.

oddyseus: if i ripped the vob's from a dvd i have, and want to burn them to a dvd-rw, do i just directly burn the 4 vob's to the dvd? or do i need to do anything else/burn any thing else?

This would depend, nickk

Bear in mind that DVD's can be either single or dual layer. DVDR/RW's on the other hand are (at the moment) single layer.

The size of your ripped vobs can therefore be significantly greater than the maximum capacity of your target media.

Put your original DVD in the drive. Go into My Computer and right click the drive. Go down to properties and click it.

If the Total size is reported as less than 4.4GB, use DVD Decryptor. Set Mode menu to ISO read to rip the disc to an iso image, then select ISO Write mode to record this image to your DVDR/RW.

If the contents of the original disc are larger than this, they will need to be "shrunk" to fit. This can be done in a number of ways.

1. Stripping unwanted audio and subs tracks, menus etc.
2. Using a higher degree of MPEG compression, sacrificing picture quality to reduce size.
3. A combination of the above.
4. Splitting over 2 discs

Really, what you need to do is :readguid:
Click the "home" button at the top of this page, then click on Guides to see the Doom9 "How To's"

Hope this helps
Nick

If a movie only backup is all you want then just use DVD Shrink to rip and re-author your movie title in question. If you need a re-authoring guide, look here (http://www.dvdshrink.info/guides.php). At the end, you will have all your files necessary for a valid DVD structure ready to burn.
