I got a dvd9 and when inserted to DVDshrink i cant set it to a size that will fir a dvd5

result will be 4,9gig ... cant make the compression on the video smaller.. 51% is the smallest there is. And why should i make it smaller ? Audio CANT be shanged.. its LPC wave in the dvd and that cant be coded with dvdshrink, so bad really bad.

I can try just rip the vob files, merge them to one. demux the sound, re-author them all with ifoEdit and copy chapterpoints with chapterRipper.

but whats the point then to use one-click-program if i still have to use alot of stand alone programs?

Anyone have a solution for this?

run it through twice and it may get it down to 4.37GB

is there any video at all (such as daft inros etc) you want to completely remove from the DVD?, as that will also save space

What I do is copy dvd's from the house, for use in the truck to keep passangers occupied on long trips.

I reauthor the dvd and just keep the movie, so they don't have to deal with the remote and stuff, just pop it in and it plays.

Also I don't have to worry about people scratching up my dvd's, when they are just copies.

well what i mean is that the videoquality can be coded but not audio. that sucks.

Why shall i downsample the video AGAIN?

Its plain stupid to not code the audio. the audiofile gets 1,6gig in size. If i encode it to AC3 i will get much better size, but for me to do that i must rip the whole movie into one VOB file, rip the chapter points, demux video and audio, code audio LPC to AC3 and then multiplex them both with chapterpoints in IfoEdit.

AS u see, not one-click-backup .... DOnt have time space for all that playing with files. :scared:

??????????, this was the best you could do using DVDShrink as it has it's limits on reduction for some reason but I would accept it and don't take it to hard ;)

if you want to reduce it more, try using an older version of DVDShrink as they allow more variation on the reduction :)

there is a page somewhere with most versions on but I'm sure one of the guys will point you to it before I recall where it is ;)

That is one of the disadvantages of any tool - there will be situations it wasn't designed to handle. This is true of every tool - for example I have a phillips head screw driver that works fine for most tasks, but it won't work for deeply recessed screws. I need to get a screw driver with a longer shank for that.

You can certainly look at re-compressing the audio from that disk to AC3 and re-authoring the disk with the compressed audio, but I would suggest that it might be easier to just split the disk to two DVDRs.

Are you missunderstanding me? I dont want to make the video more compressed. its the AUDIO that this program CANT comvert to AC3!

It wont convert the audio, only the videostream. 51% of the quality for the video might be okey for some but why shall i be that when i can make my videostream 3gig and audio 1gig with AC3?

For me this program was good untill i come accross this problem.
Why not include a converter for the audio aswell in the new version.
LPC wave is uncompressed data, i demuxed the audio from a 1gig Vob file and made it to AC3 AudioBItrate: 224 (encoded with AC3 Machine) and the file got a size of 40-50mb ...

What i must do with this DVD9 now is to compress the videostream sep. into 3.2gig and then rip the audio sep. aswell and openup with AC3 Machine and convert, then re-author the two streams with chapter extracted file in IfoEdit.

So there goes my one-click-backup out the window.
peace! =)

So there goes my one-click-backup out the window.Though a one-clicker would be great, it's nice that we still have other means/workarounds to fix our problems, especially when they are freeware. Some DVDs need special attention. ;)

I was misunderstanding you by your first post. You gave me the impression you wanted to reduce the video and keep the sound without having to change it's format as it would tyake too much effort and time

DVDShrink has never claimed to reduce audio so that's why most here thought you wanted more video reduction as that's what it's used for. The only thing it does to audio is remove it and nothing else

there is no 'one clicker' that does both audio and video :(

as 2COOL mentions some DVD's need extra TLC and this is one of them :)

Unless you want to use some other tools, I would chalk this disc up to bad luck.

You can use Pegasys TMPGEnc DVD Author with their AC3 plugin which will recode the audio to AC3 as well as reauthor for you without having to strip or remux, it does it all in one move, but for only one disc, you may not want to mess with it.

Good Luck!
