Hey guys, DVDShrink has been working wonderfully for me, so of course I have recommended it to everyone. I had a friend come over with their new Sony Vaio P4 laptop and we installed it.

It lets us open the disc, it runs the analyzation, it lets us do everything but then when we press the button to backup, set the parameters, then press ok, we get a copy protection error! I have tried two DVDs so far, one of which I know is not even copy protected or region coded.

Does anyone know why this is happening? I am using 3.1.6 I believe it is, the newest stable version from dvdshrink.org (at least linked from).

Any help available would be JUST GREAT!! They're over now and I really want to get it working for them!!

Thanks so much!!

Has the region for the drive been set?
Does it a have a dvdplayer (app) installed?

I thought the same thing about the dvd player software, yes it does have some installed, but maybe I will try and install another just to make sure that's not an issue.

I ASSUME that the region for the drive was set, but that could just be the problem...

...however, I was able to watch the streams within DVDShrink. Would I be able to do so if either of the issues you mentioned were the problem?

You can with shrink, even if your region isn't set. But when you go to copy you'll get the protection error.
.
This has happened to me a couple of times when hooking up friends, I always forget to set region of the drive. Once the region is set, no more protection errors.
.
Thats probably why the disc you tried that wasn't copy protected didn't work.
.
Then again sony may have done some funky setup which is causing your problems.

I can't find the post but I believe that the Copy right problem was corrected in 3.1.7...http://www.dvdshrink.org/

Correct me someone if I am wrong.

I must be wrong, I just received the same error while backing up Radio with 3.1.7 beta 5. Hmmm, not sure what to make of this.
