Hello rippers!

A question about the encoding speed. I use GK in last revision with DivX Pro codec. A look in the logfiles tells me about 40 till 50 fps.:D when i'm encoding with GK. OK this is fast enough i think but my computer is an Intel 3Ghz. with 1GB RAM installed. The CPU usage went about 90% until encoding. Is is possible to use HyperThreading wit GK? Or did GK not support HT technology. I think this would get much more speed for encoding and less usage of the CPU.
Anybody ideas?

GKnot doesn't do any encoding. It's just a front-end to configure the codecs and to automate the work in VirtualDub Mod. So your question should be 'hyperthreading' for VDub and 'hyperthreading' for DivX and XViD.

btw, the principle of 'threading' is to make multiple tasks/processes/threads to execute faster in parallel. If you focus on a single task (like a single encode), threading won't make it faster. So, I don't think there would be much speedgain anyway.

Hello Piscator
Thanks a lot of your explanation about HT.
I now understand this "problem".

Actually, DivX seems to have some hyperthreading support. Look at the following thread: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=72595

That would go some way to explaining why DivX crunches quicker than XviD on my P4 3 gig then...:sly:
