Can't burn at 1x using Nero

Helo folks, I have re-encoded a DVD9 using DVD shrink, and then I went down to burn the files using Nero 6.3.0.3, and this is the problem: When there's no media inserted, all speeds are selectable (1x through 4x), but when I insert my media (tried different brands already), the only speeds available are 2x and 4x.

I would like to burn at 1x, but I can't select it, can someone help?

Windows XP

This is a known problem with your drive. It's firmware is a bit b0rked. You should use media that can be recorded at 4x :D
