Hi everybody,
I just use XviD to decode. I installed latest version and noticed that the Brightness slider is locked. Is it normal? I do need it!

Yes it is supposed to be locked - XviD 1.0 (final) will have it unlocked. Either use the brightness slider of your gfx card driver or install ffdshow to decode XviD.

Where does this information come from? Maybe deringing is unlocked then, too?

Well I assume it would - if not you would have taken out the slider / buttons out a long time ago - wouldn you?
Or is that the lazyness of programmers not deleting unused code ?

It's just locked as we plan to add that (and it will be added for sure some time!). But not necessarily for 1.0 already... :)

Can't we then tell Nic(he used to make the XviD DirctShow filter back on the dev-api-3 days, didn't he?) or the Master of DirectShow, Gabest, to help?

I'm a little unclear on this: It's the brightness slider in the 1.00 or 1.01 configuration area that's inaccessible, right? The brightness controls in the given media player (BSplayer etc) still work, right? I ask because I've seen several comments about brightness adjustment and wonder why the player's own controls aren't used.
Related to this, I still have a machine on which I'm using Nic's last build, from last summer (which does let me use BSplayer's brightness controls, but for now I'm assuming 1.01 does too). This ancient build still works with everything that I download and play. What am I missing in not upgrading to 1.01?
Thanks

Brightness control is not enabled in the 1.0.x tree. If you want a build with brightness control enabled look fox 1.1.x builds (http://xvid.gamrdev.com)

Well, you can always upgrade and see for yourself, and if you don't like it, go back to what you are using : P

I'll do that, but I was just hoping to hear if there were any caveats and really what the major differences between the two are. Perhaps the changes are mostly on the encoder side.

Well to be honest, I would advise you to stick with the decoder you have if it satisfies your needs.
Latest decoder is usually slower, and could have some problems with certain (rare however) encodes made with unstable devAPI3 builds.
On the other hand decoding quality should be better.
