Hey guys.

Ok, so here is my problem. I have a few vids in divx that dont sound right. The audio sounded a little higher pitched than it should. I downloaded Reclock and set the audio to 23fps and that did the trick(I beleive it was encoded @ 25fps).

I want to play these vids on my Xbox so I wanted to know if there was a perm way of correcting the audio, such as extracting the mp3 and manipulating the file to play at the correct 23fps speed ? I could then reintegrate the file with the video. Is there a way to do this? If so, how? Thanks a lot for your time and help.

EDIT: I might also be able to fix the problem by reencoding the file to 23 fps, its currently 25. How can I do that? Thanks

Hi and welcome-

Are your ears that sensitive that you can tell that fairly small difference? I wouldn't guess that the original audio and video were 23fps, but it is common for a movie when converted from NTSC 24 fps to PAL 25fps to be speeded up. And that slight speedup (and resulting higher pitched audio) bothers some people, and not others. But yes, there's a way to extract the audio, and re-encode it, and also to slow the video to whatever you want, without re-encoding.

To extract the audio, open the movie in VDubMod, set Video to Direct Stream Copy, then go Streams->Stream List->Save WAV. Give it a name, and then rename the extension when done (like to .mp3 or .AC3, whatever it was originally). Then take that audio file, and open it in BeSweet, pick a setting, like the default MP3 for AVI maybe, and over on the left side, either use one of the Presets, like PAL to NTSC 25000 to 23976, or check "Change Framerate from..." and fill in whatever you want Then wait awhile, and you'll have the converted audio. But re-encoding will degrade the audio quality.

Back to the video. Open that same movie in VDubMod, set Video to Direct Stream Copy, and then Video->Framerate->Change to, and fill in the same as what you did with the audio. Back to Streams->Stream List. Disable the audio that's already there, and Add the new audio, and "Move Up" to the top. OK your way out of there, and then go File->Save As, give it a new name, wait a minute or two, and then test it that it sounds right, and that the audio is in synch with the video. Good luck.
