hey

Basically my problem resides in putting the rips I've made of (in my country) perfectly legally rented DVDs in SVCD format back on DVD. Easy some'd say - just use SVCD2MPG/DVD. Well that's a big no-no to me, been there, done that, and it's not working the way I want it to. Period.

I want to possibly reencode the whole lot, video and audio which isn't the problem to me (technically nor quality-wise) as the SVCDs are mostly 3discs, aka HighQuality. The problem is how do I extract the selectable CVD subs and the chapter points? I'd be happy just to stay with the SVCD as they are, but my fancy Kiss dp-500 can't render SVCD with CVD subs  so unless you can code a new firmware for the player, I need a tip on how to do this little subtitle/chapter-trick.

tnx in advance

could an admin plz move this thread to a more appropiate area of the forum - I just realise it's probably not the right place to ask this question.

tnx

Hi,

you could try to extract your subs using vob2sub (gives you a set of bmps plus a timed script suitable for submux). pepipocpoc (sp?) over at the subs forum is the the one to ask on this one.
For extracting the chapter stops, use e.g. vcdeasy, it will generate an xml script from your svcd image containing the chapter stops.

As for reencoding, is it really necessary? First try to see if your standalone supports DVD@SVCD resolution - doom9 has a guide regarding the required patching steps.
