View Full Version : An error encoding - not sure if it's XviD or VDubMod

I've tried to encode two clips I captured from my Hauppauge PVR 350 and am not having much luck. I've successfully encoded the clips using other codecs, so I believe this is XviD specific. One time I received a VirtualDubMod error that said the faulting module was itself and the last time I received one that said it was XviD.

I'm encoding using GordianKnot and the Doom9's guide.

Thanks, guys. I'll keep using DivX for the moment but I'd much rather switch to XviD to store all my Good Eats and NASCAR for a whole variety of reasons. :)

Unfortunately, I will have to blame unstable system/overclocking. I'm not saying that you did overclock, and yes, I'm sure your system is stable with every other application.
The thing is, I've seen this bug report before, on an otherwise perfectly stable but overclocked system (I can't find this thread anymore). It was identical, because the vdub's stack trace was just as crazy at yours. Look what yours says: it started to encode a frame, started a single-pass plugin (yes, as if you were using CBR), then started some kind of debug output in ntdll.dll, went back to plugin_single and crashed in qpel interpolation function :confused:, which crashed because it had wrong parameters....

This is exactly what was going on on that overclocked system, and worked perfectly without overclocking.

I have no idea why xvid is so sensitive to almost-stable system, but it's a fact.
