i think doom9 is a great resource, but at the same time it's overwhelming, the amount of information.
my problem: have been using autoshrinkiso, had no problems burning my first couple of projects. namely the band of brothers boxed set, we were soldiers, and some inuyasha dvds. lately though, i can break a disc into the individual files, but when it come times to burn, always get an error. this is using autoshrink with dvdecryptor burning with roxio 6. also have the same trouble if i use just dvdshrink and nero. here is the latest error message, using autoshrink and roxio:
*dvdecrypter
I/O error!

this was trying to burn cowboy bebop the movie.
had have the same results with ocean's eleven.
is this a software problem, or something tricky the dvds are doing?
i tried looking around on doom9, but again, its overwhelming and a lot of the techno-speak goes over my head.
thanks for any ideas or help

First of all, you're showing DVD Decryptor error while saying you didn't use DVD Decryptor in the that experiment. You have to split your process in steps and examine each step individually.

1. Start with DVD-5 original, i.e. one layer DVD that doesn't need shrinking.
2. Rip the DVD on your HDD using DVD Decryptor in File mode; select all the files before ripping. The size of the DVD and the total size of the ripped files should be the same.
3. Once you got the files on HDD, try playing them with any software player that supports DVD playback from hard drive, for example PowerDVD or Roxio DVDMAX.
4. If you can play the DVD from HDD, burn the entire VIDEO_TS folder with Nero in DVD-Video mode. Use rewritable DVD for testing - it's important to try the media different from what you're using now.

If you can burn a DVD successfully this way, then try to back up DVD-9 and shrink it after step 3 into a separate VIDEO_TS folder. Then repeat steps 3 & 4, i.e. test the shrunk version and burn it.

This way, you'll see when you get the errors, whether it's during the ripping or burning. Check that DMA mode is enabled in Device Manager for the burner. If you're still having problems, post back detailing the step you get errors.

thanks i'll give it a shot. i was using autoshrinkiso, which automates dvdshrink and uses dvdecrypter to burn the files. as far as a single layered dvd... i'll have to see if i have one. since its worked fine for 7 projects, but not two(which are newer as far as release date) i was curious if it was maybe something in the source dvd, but i'm new to this, so whatever. i'll try this. thanks

well, tried what was suggested, nothing still worked. might have been the disc i was using (said it was empty, but had tried to burn something on it before) uninstalled everything, even the burner, reinstalled( i may have also updated some of my software so that may have been it) anyway, once i did all that and changed the blank disc, all works well again. so, who knows

update: it seems i had three bad dvd-r's. i kept trying to us them b/c the were blank. out of desperation i grabbed a disc out of the middle of the spindle, and what do you know, worked fine. every other disc ended up working fine as well... who knows
