Hi,
I am getting perfect video, but NO AUDIO output on most DVD's while using Windows Media Player and Nero Showtime. I should have the proper codecs installed. I have NERO 6 Ultra Edition Installed which had the NERO Showtime player as part of it's package. Nero Showtime as you know is sort of a copy of PowerDVD by Cyberlink.
I am NOT getting any audio on most of the DVD’s I play when using WMP or Showtime. These are all commercially released, store-bought DVD’s. I am playing ALL DVD’s in normal, 2-channel PCM Stereo mode and not mistakenly choosing the 5.1 Dolby Digital audio track in the DVD’s menu. Certain DVD’s play okay. For example, I just recently purchased the new, live album DVD by the band Coldplay. This DVD has a PCM Stereo track and a 5.1 Dolby Digital track. I choose the PCM Stereo mode and both Video AND Audio work perfectly in WMP and Showtime. However, I also purchased the new Led Zeppelin live DVD and purchased the G3 live DVD by Joe Satriani, Eric Johnson, and Steve Vai. Both of these DVD’s also have PCM stereo and 5.1 audio formats. Of course, I choose PCM Stereo audio on both of these DVD’s and I get NO audio in WMP or Nero Showtime! Can you offer any explanation or help in why I get no audio output on certain DVD’s? I thought that the Nero 6 installation included all of the audio and video codec’s I would need to play normal DVD’s? What could be different on the 2-channel PCM audio track of some concert DVD's versus other's?
I checked the start/run command of "dvdupgrd /detect" and XP lists that I have a DVD decoder installed (NeMPG.ax). All DVD's have perfect video and some DVD's will play audio in WMP just fine, but most of my DVD's have no audio in WMP. Obviously I suspected that an Mpeg-2 decoder was not registered or working?
Nonetheless, I also have PowerDVD Deluxe 5 and I installed that. Now ALL DVD's play perfectly in PowerDVD 5 and ALL DVD's have perfect audio in PowerDVD 5. So now, I would have assumed that Windows Media Player would use the decoder that came with PowerDVD. However, if I try to play the same DVD in Windows Media Player, that just gave perfect AUDIO output in PowerDVD, I am getting perfect video, but NO audio while using WMP or Nero Showtime.
I am stumped and wondered if anyone can share some tips. Yes, I know that I could just use PowerDVD to view and listen to DVD's but I need to get Windows Media Player to work as well. The company that I do contract work for has asked me to view and critique how their new line of DVD's are working in various software players, including Windows Media Player and Nero Showtime. I am supposed to give them a report of how the menus work, video performs and audio performs in various software players. Hence, that is why I was going to view them in Nero Showtime, PowerDVD, and Windows Media Player.
So, again, on my system, I have Nero Showtime, PowerDVD 5, and Windows Media Player installed to play DVD's. I should have the installed codecs and decoders form either the Nero Showtime install, and/or the PowerDVD install. I thought that WMP would use one of those? But, PowerDVD is the ONLY player that is giving perfect video AND audio. Both Nero Showtime and most importantly, Windows Media Player give me video but NO audio.
