again, subs in vcd, how??????

I've read about getting subs on svcd with dvd and all, but i've got a simple mkv or avi file and I want my subs to be on my vcd, but when i use tmpg encoder, it just doesn't take the subs with it. What am I doing wrong, is TMPG even capable of taking subs?

install vobsub, load your movie file into virtualdub, add the textsub filter, choose your subtitle file, and begin frameserving; there's a couple minor step i'd left out, you figure it out, good night.

I'm very new to all of this so I don't understand halve of what you are talking about :confused:
I've installed vobsub, but what does it do. I see acouple of buttons but what does it have to do with virtualdub (I've got virtualdobmod by the way).
And i can't find textsub filter either. I've looked under video->filter but there's only stuff like flip screen or black&white, nothing about textsub.
And finaly the frame serving thing. I selected frameserving, a window popped up saying something like frame clients installed none, frames served none and non-A/V sources none. What does all of that have to do with TMPG.
Could you please discribe every step that i need to do, 'i haven't got a clue of what all of this does

hmmm... i was hoping you would learn it by yourself, cause i tend to only come here only once a day.

install vobsub, under Plugins selected Textsub for Virtualdub, later it will ask you to locate your virutaldub folder so you can install the Textsub plugin (make sure you have a plugins folder in virtualdub)

did you do the AuxSetup thing the link mention?

tmpgenc does really have the ability to add subs to a movie, so you need to frameserve it from virtualdub with the textsub filter into tmpgenc; still don't understand, let's said you have a deaf brother who loves Pokemon, but your TV doesn't have closed captions, so you go over to your friend's house to record Pokemon with the closed caption on with a video caption so he can understand what's going on

Ok thnx once a day is more than enough, because i only have time once a day, the rest of the time i'm working :(

Now here goes, virtual dub has a plugins folder but i don't have the textsub plugin, where do i get it? what does vobsub have to do with all of this?? am i suppossed to get the textsub plugin from there? vobsub is very limitid, i can hardly find any options and folders so i'm not sure what to do with it.

And how do i get tmpg encode to work with that frame server thing, and vobsub for hte subs. when i start tmpg up it just asks me to select a file, and nothing about frameservers and all.

I did manage to get 1 thing right, i followed the steps concering the auxsetup

wait! i figured another thing out, to get the frame server to help tmpg you have to select the frameserve file as the file to encode right?
But the preview sscreen in tmpg remains black, so that's not realy a good thing right. (BTW i did all this as a test, i still don't get the subtitle part and the textsub file so i left that out)

WAIT again, the preview remained emtpty but the file actualy works!!! could i finaly have a real working file? all that's left now are the subs...

i'd already explain how to get the Textsub plugin (2nd reply, 2nd line, when it says Choose Components, just click the + next to the Plugins and you will see the Textsub for Virtualdub) and you are right, the frameserve file is the file to be encoded; if you want to preview the movie, in tmpgenc, File -> Preview

your lucky i'm actually do subs now, so i'm going to tell you step by step what i'm doing.

1st i open virtualdub and choose the movie i what to frameserve

2nd i go to Video -> Filter -> Add and choose Textsub 2.20

3rd an Textsub settings will open up, now choose you subtitle file, you might also want to change the style to you preferences

4th go to File -> Start frame server, the 1st box is the movie that will be frameserved, the 2nd box will ask you for a name for the project (called it whatever you want, but many sure you add the .vdr part ie. movie.vdr), after that it will say
Frameserver mode - VirtualDub

5th open up tmpgenc, and choose you project, you may not see it, so set the File of type: to All files(*.*) and now choose the *.vdr file, now your ready to start encoding, after you change the Setting to your likings.

I am very sorry, and i'm sure i'm missing something stupid but i just can't find that damned text thing.

everything else is fine i understand that. that plugin is supposed to be somewhere in vobsub right? i can't find it. virtual dub has a plugin folder but it only contains a text file nothing else. When i open virtualdub->video->filters then add the last filters says TV no text whatsoever. so then i do load and it asks me for a vdf file. I start scrolling about, plugins folder of virtual dub nothing (logically) then all the vobsub folders i can find is docs and it contains some text files, that's all. i've got vobsub 2.23, does that mean anything?

found it but ofcourse every step must cause a problem so here it is:

Open textsub, it asks for your file wich i've named like the video file and it is in srt format . I click open and... nothing happens. no error nothing it just goes to the textsub settings but the filename space remains empty and grey. what am i doing wrong this time?

there was this problem when i was installing the plugins when it asked for the path of aviUtil, but i couldn't find it so it didn't instal that perhaps that is the problem. What is aviUtil? does it come with vobsub or virtual dub? and is it installed in the same folders, 'cause i couldn't find it.
Or maybe it doesn't have anything to do with the subs problem and i can just ignore it?

there shouldn't be a problem with textsub, but their might be something wrong with your subtitle file, try this one and see if it works:

if it works, then there is something wrong with your subs.

i have no idea what aviutil does, so just ignore that.

i have no idea what aviutil does, so just ignore that.

Link doesn't work but that's not your fault, my pc just doesn't seem to open those pages (i assume that it is an ftp server?)
Anyway i muxed those sub again, they're from an mkv file but it's the same story. However i'm out of time tonight, ill try again 2morrow.
If you have any suggestions i'm grateful.
