I've had my sony DRU510a since november and have generally had no issues. Just recently, (last night) after i finish a burn, the drive becomes unresponsive. I'm using nero 6 to burn dvd's i create in dvd lab. Once i reboot my machine the drive comes back up this happened 4 times last night. do you think the drive is going bad ?
My system
P4 3.0 HT
Asus P4C800-E Deluxe
2 gigs pc2700 ram in dual channel mode
Win XP with last SP
2 diamond max 9 sata 160gb drives in raid 0
1 seagate 18gb cheetah (boot drive)
thanks for any help

well aparently no...
i've been having the same issues for the last 8 or 9 months and it didn't show any effect (besides having to reboot the computer)
btw which firmware are you using?

Steve,
I'm using the firm ware that came with the drive, i saw sony has an update, but i'm tenetive to put it on as i've only seen mixed reviews about it. did you run the update? and has it helped at all ?
thanks for the help.

hi
well i'm currently running on 5.0f which is the second newest firmware, not the one that came with my drive. honestly i've already downloaded the newest firmware (5.0g iirc) but haven't had time to update the drive jet.
the last update improved compatibility with no-brand dvd-r media and also reduced these hangs from frequent to occasional :)
i personally would hope that the new update would probably reduce them to a minimum!
cheers

Steve,
Thanks for the info, I think i might try running the firmware update. Everytime after a sucessfull burn the drive just dies.
