OK here's the deal I've got an avi file, that has subtitles that you can slect in zoomplayer, but I want to watch it on my stand alone dvd player in vcd format. So i used tmpgenc to turn it into mpg, but it doesn't take the subs with it, why? how do I get the subs in my file with TMPG?
I've read a lot of topics about it but I couldn't really find an answer.

kawasakininja,
For a VCD mpeg, you have to imbedded in the clip (i.e. permanent sub) and you can use Winsubmux to do that. But if you want to have your subtitle to be selectable, then you have to convert you avi to an SVCD mpeg. Here's a guide.

Bubba,
Hmm, can you, please, explain how to make permanent subs with Winsubmux?

It's impossible - winsubmux is for muxing subs into SVCD, giving you "soft" (selectable) subs. It is NOT possible to have soft subs on VCD.
