View Full Version : Why cant the RMVB files play on the TV

Hi All,
I was wondering if anyone could help. See, i usually use my laptop to watch my .avi or mpeg shows that i connect to the TV, and this works fine. but i recently got some RMVB files that i tried playing, and the screen on my TV is all green with audio while my laptop's screen watches perfectly. would anyone pls explain why i cant use my laptop connected to the TV to watch my .rmvb files, and if possible is there anyway i can get it to work?

this might be related to overlay. try to reduce hardware acceleration few ticks back, or even bring it to minimum to start with.
(desktop -> right-click -> properties -> settings -> advanced -> troubleshoot )

This exact same thing happened to me long time ago with a certain version of ATI Radeon drivers and RealOne player. IIRC upgrading both of them solved the issue.

I was an overlay-related issue.

Sorry, my internet was disconnected for sometime. Thanks for your help avih, but it didnt work maybe bcos i have a ATI radeon 9000 video card. nikthebak is suggesting some other versions of the driver, is that right? should i go tru other versions of the driver?

Try another video player like MPC, TCMP or Zoomplayer where you can force the VMR9 ( = Video Mixing Renderer 9 ) from DirectX 9 being used ....

EDIT : Of course i assume you are NOT using RealPlayer for your .rmvb's ? Get the matroska playback pack (http://packs.matroska.org) ( full or realmedia version, but disable mmswitch in the installation setup ) to allow playback of .rmvb files via all DirectShow based players ....

Hi samcan,

Has your 'Display Properties' 'Colour Quality' setting changed from say 32bit or 24bit, down to 16bit?

Hi,

Yes!! I am using realplayer to play my .rmvb files cause i thought they were the only player to play those files, anyway, i try those suggestions of trying a new player and bringing it down to 16bit.

Some of the TV out cards used to have a habit of adjusting the colour bit down when TV out or when both VGA and TV out was selected!
